Tone TC Shear Wrenches are designed to work with a Tension Control Bolt assemblies. A Tension Control (TC) or Twist-Off Bolt assembly consists of one bolt, one nut and one washer. To install, start by inserting the bolt through the steel connection and connect the washer and nut. Next, use the shear wrench snug tighten all bolts in the connection. After that, reapply the Shear Wrench, on the TC assembly and hold the trigger down until the spline snaps off, repeating as necessary. Finally, use the ejector trigger to eject the spline from the shear wrench.

Inspection, of TC bolts consists of visually ensuring that the spline has snapped off. Repeat for all bolts, in the connection.

TC Shear Wrenches are manufactured with an inner and outer socket. The inner socket grab is used to grab the spline, while the outer socket rotates the nut, twisting both elements, in opposite directions. The spline is designed to shear off above the min levels as described in F3125-15a. Twist-off bolts are governed by the ASTM specification F3125-15a and have been endorsed by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC).
